The National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP) is a voluntary federal-state-industry cooperative program focused on the health and disease control of poultry flocks in the United States. Certification allows for easier interstate and international movement of live birds and hatching eggs, often bypassing the need for individual health certificates from veterinarians. All chickens, turkeys and upland game birds being shown at an exhibition show must be tested with 90 days of the show. For a flock test with less than 30 birds - test all birds. For 31-300 birds test 30 birds. For flocks over 300 birds test10% to a maximum of 300 birds.
All waterfowl, doves and pigeons do not need to be tested for exhibition.
